Apple to invest another $200 million in carbon removal fund

Apple has announced that it will invest another $200 million in its Restore Fund, a carbon removal initiative that aims to support natural solutions to climate change. The fund, which was launched in April 2021 with $200 million, is a partnership between Apple, Conservation International and Goldman Sachs.

The Restore Fund invests in projects that restore and protect forests, wetlands and grasslands around the world. These ecosystems not only provide habitat for wildlife and livelihoods for local communities, but also store carbon and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. According to Apple, the fund has already supported projects that will remove at least 1 million metric tons of carbon dioxide annually from the atmosphere.

Apple's CEO Tim Cook said in a statement: "We are proud to double down on our commitment to addressing the climate crisis by supporting the incredible work of our partners at Conservation International and Goldman Sachs. By restoring ecosystems and supporting communities that depend on them, we can make a positive impact on the planet and its people."

The announcement comes as Apple is working towards its goal of becoming carbon neutral across its entire business and supply chain by 2030. The company has already achieved carbon neutrality for its global corporate operations, and is investing in renewable energy, energy efficiency, low-carbon materials and innovative technologies to reduce its environmental footprint.

Apple is also encouraging its customers and employees to join its efforts to combat climate change. The company recently launched a new feature on its Apple Watch that allows users to track their carbon footprint and get tips on how to reduce it. Apple also offers free environmental education resources for teachers and students through its Everyone Can Code and Everyone Can Create programs.

Apple's investment in the Restore Fund is part of its broader commitment to support environmental and social causes around the world. The company has donated millions of dollars to various organizations that work on issues such as education, health, human rights, racial justice and disaster relief. Apple has also joined forces with other companies and governments to advocate for policies that promote a clean energy future.
